Why is coconut oil added to infant formula?

Coconut oil is the only oil in our daily food composed of medium-chain fatty acids. Medium-chain fat molecules are smaller than long-chain fat molecules in other foods and are easily digested and absorbed by the human body. MCFA (Medium chain fatty acids) is mainly extracted from coconut oil. Although coconut oil is saturated, it is completely different from other saturated fatty acids because it is medium chain.

MCFA - easy for baby to digest and absorb
Coconut oil is mainly based on MCFA, while the vegetable oil or animal oil we usually eat is mostly LCFA (long chain fatty acid). MCFA is more conducive to the baby's digestion and absorption.

JHD Corp shares the main reasons :

1. After LCFA enters our stomach, it needs to be decomposed into individual fatty acids under the action of pancreatic digestive enzymes and bile, and can be absorbed after being combined with protein.

2. MCFA does not require pancreatic digestive enzymes and bile, but after entering the stomach, it is immediately absorbed by the portal vein and directly enters the liver. In turn, it is preferentially used as fuel in the liver to generate energy, which is especially suitable for babies, because the digestive system of babies is not yet fully developed, and this fat is particularly easy to absorb.

As a result, coconut oil is often added to the diets of people with digestive problems or difficulty digesting fats, such as baby formula or the diets of hospital patients.

Organic coconut oil is not only easy to digest and absorb by babies, but also has various health functions, such as preventing cardiovascular disease, effectively controlling weight and energy, and promoting the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and minerals.
