Introduction

The mung bean (Vigna radiata), alternatively known as the moong bean, green gram, lentil, is a plant species in the legume family. Native to the Indian subcontinent, the mung bean is mainly cultivated today in India, China, and Southeast Asia. It is also cultivated in hot, dry regions in Southern Europe and the Southern United States. It is used as an ingredient in both savory and sweet dishes.

Mung Bean hull contains high content of total dietary fiber (TDF, 65.85%), among which 62.10% insoluble dietary fiber (IDF) and 3.75% Soluble Dietary Fibre (SDF), and high content of flavonoids, also other importand nutrient components such β-sitosterol, raw protein, minerals, and etc. Traditionally Mung Bean Hull is used as face care material, which shows very good character in this use. And now its dietary fibre, especially it is soluble dietary fibre is used as materials for anti-obesity foods and health foods, are also very popular.

The Mung Bean Hull Extract used in dietary supplements is derived from the bean hull of the plant mung bean (Vigna radiate (L.) R. Wilczek).
