Introduction

Is a perennial herb of Paeoniaceae and Paeonia. The roots are stout and the branches are dark brown. Stem 40-70 cm tall, glabrous. The lower stem leaves are double and triple leaves, and the upper stem leaves are trifoliate; the leaflets are narrow ovate, elliptic or lanceolate. Flowers several, the top of the stem and leaf axil, sometimes only one open at the top; bracts 4-5, lanceolate, unequal in size; sepals 4, broadly ovate or suborbicular; petals 9-13, obovate, petals variously colored, sometimes with dark purple plaques at the base; filaments 0.7-1.2 cm long, yellow. Follicles 2.5-3 cm long, 1.2-1.5 cm in diameter, apically beaked. The flowering period is from May to June and the fruit period is from August.
